Neologisms

While reading Fowler's post on Semantic Diffusion, he starts by saying he has a habit of creating neologisms.

This word was new to me. It's when someone invents a new term to describe something new or to express an idea in a fresh way. Fowler creates new words to describe things he sees in software.

I have a tendency to do the same thing. Coining a phrase helps me think about a problem. I've written about a couple, like Accidental Intent Cancelling and Implicit Freshness.

None of these has caught on, and I don't expect them to. But naming something helps me recognise it. I coin terms and phrases to help myself think. Which is great, in a way, because I never need to watch them experience Semantic Diffusion.
